Kid Power is a company specialised in running specialist study days and clinical workshops for Paediatric Occupational Therapist, other healthcare, educational and psychological professionals who work with children with different additional needs.
The main Training Consultant of the company is Dr. Sidney Chu who has many years of clinical and teaching experience. He has presented many training courses, study days, keynote speeches and seminars in different parts of the United Kingdom and also overseas e.g. Malta, Republic of Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Jordan, China.
Dr. Chu trained as an Occupational Therapist in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in 1982. He moved to work in the United Kingdom in 1987 after working for about 5 years as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist in a charity organisation for children with special needs in Hong Kong. He has extensive experience in working with children with different disability conditions in various service settings. During his career as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, he has acquired different advanced clinical skills and academic qualifications. He was the manager of a large multi-agency funded paediatric occupational therapy service for children with different disability conditions within different acute, community, primary care, mental health, early years, education, social care and public health settings in one of the London Boroughs. He carried out regular clinical work in the service.
Dr. Chu was one of the founder members and ex-Chairperson of the British Institute for Sensory Integration (BISI). He is an honorary member of the Sensory Integration Network – UK & Ireland. He completed his PhD study in developing a multi-faceted intervention model for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in 2005 at Brunel Univeristy. He received the Vice-Chancellor Award for outstanding PhD study.
Dr. Chu has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Brunel University to recognize his contribution in the field in November, 2007. He has also been awarded as an Outstanding Graduate in the 30th Anniversary of the Department of Rehabilitation Science, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in October 2008.
Dr. Chu has published many journal articles, clinical papers and chapters in book. He has also been involved in different professional activities e.g. reviewer of the British Journal of Occupational Therapy. He has special interests and specialist skills in the assessment and treatment of children with Specific Developmental Disorders (e.g. Developmental Coordination Disorder, Developmental Dyslexia, ADHD etc), Cerebral Palsy and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
